You're ready to transition to a plant-based diet.

I'm here to give you the tools you need to succeed.

What’s holding you back from making the switch?

  • I want to go plant-based but have no idea how to get started
  • I have no time to cook all those fancy dishes I see on Instagram
  • Finding plant-based options at the store or at restaurants is overwhelming
  • I’ve tried other diets to fix my bloating, weight gain, fatigue, high blood pressure, blood sugar problems, etc. and nothing has worked
  • My family doesn’t support my healthy lifestyle goals, and I want someone who understands
  • CHEESE! It has me in its clutches!

Whether it's one thing or all of the above, I can help you get to where you want to be.

I’m Theresa “Sam” Houghton, and it’s my goal to provide you with the help and support you need as you transition to a plant-based diet.

As a graduate of the T. Colin Campbell Center for Nutrition Studies Plant-Based Nutrition program and the Nutrition Consultant program from Bauman College, I can show you how to navigate your way through the ups and downs of going plant-based without feeling deprived or overwhelmed.

I don’t just want you to live a plant-based lifestyle…

I want you to thrive!

Why the Plant-Based Focus?

GreenGut Wellness works on one simple premise: Plants are health. Did you know..

  • Most of the chronic diseases you’re concerned about — diabetes, cancer, heart disease, dementia — can be prevented or reversed with a plant-based lifestyle?
  • You can get all the nutrients you need from whole plant foods without any crazy measuring or counting?
  • Eating plant-based can help you get to a healthy weight, improve your digestion and give you more energy?
  • Some of the largest health providers and organizations in the U.S. recognize plant-based diets as beneficial for health?

These are just a few of the reasons my focus with GreenGut Wellness is on a diet that emphasizes fruits, vegetables, whole grains, beans, nuts and seeds. But the biggest reason? Your health is important to me, and I don’t want to see you struggling with symptoms you can overcome simply by changing the way you approach food.

Because it really is that simple. Diet + lifestyle + plants = health.

It's Time to Thrive!

ready to start a plant-based diet?

I get how confusing it can be when you want to dive into a new lifestyle. When I first started pursuing a plant-based diet, I was in high school and had no clue what I was doing. My first “vegan” shopping trip ended with me grabbing bean sprouts, tofu, veggie burgers, soy hot dogs and soy milk.

Granted, there weren’t a whole lot of plant-based options at the time, but even if there had been, I wasn’t sure exactly what eating only plant-based foods was supposed to look like. It would have been easier if I had someone to guide me, and the more I learned about the benefits of removing animal products from my diet, the more I wanted to share what I was learning and help other people experience positive change.

(You can read more about my journey to plant-based wellness, including my struggle with disordered eating and how making the switch helped me heal, here.)

Today, I’m more passionate than ever about sharing the benefits of whole plant foods, and I want to help you experience the best a plant-based diet has to offer.

A little bit more about me…

In addition to helping clients transition successfully to plant-based diets, I’m a recipe developer, speaker and presenter. I have appeared on Focus on Albany and WAMC’s Food Friday and shared articles in Eco Local Living magazine and Natural Awakenings. I am a regular contributor to, and my work also appears online on One Green Planet, WishGarden Herbs and Reduce Footprints. As a former member of Toastmasters International, I hold a Competent Communicator designation for public speaking.

My recipes have been featured in the Honest Weight Food Co-op Coop Scoop, the Daily Dozen 2017 calendar and the Albany Times Union 2016 and 2017 “Naughty or Nice” Christmas Cookie Challenge.

When I’m not cooking, writing or blogging, you can find me walking, busting it out with a good HIIT or strength routine, knitting, reading through the Bible, listening to audiobooks about gut microbes, spending time with my family or shopping for food like some people shop for shoes. (If I have any shopping addiction, it’s farmers markets!)
